Abstract

In this paper, we have proposed the use of linearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings for dispersion compensation of 40Gb/s NRZoptical communication system. The observations are based on the modeling and numerical simulation of optimum dispersion-managed transmission link. Transmission over 750 kilometers has been shown with minimum BER at optimal decision threshold (10-9) by varying the input optical power from 0 to 12 dBm. It has been observed that the system gives the optimum performance at input power 9dBm beyond which the nonlinear effects dominate and deteriorates the signal. Various parameters like BER, Q value, Eye closure penalty have been investigated to obtain the optimum performance.

Abstract

Free space optics is an excellent supplement to fiber optics, capable of handling point to point and point to multipoint connections. It is the broadband wireless solution for connecting the backbone to the users (Last-Mile-Access). FSO links are highly affected by the local atmospheric conditions. In this paper we simulate the FSO system for different  vironmental conditions operating at a bit rate of 2.5, 10 and 20 Gb/s for RZ format with 0.8 duty cycle. The results shows that heavy rain cause very high bit error rate, and they limit maximun link length to 1.1 km for bit rate 2.5Gb/s and link length decreases as the bit rate increases. During heavy haze and moderate rain the link length is upto 2.5 km and 1.8 km, respectively.

Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to represent the analytical solutions gleaned for the propagation of the soliton pulses through a birefringent optical fiber by using Split Step Fourier Transform(SSFT). For 631.72km long fiber, the time delay of 200 and 400ps is observed between the X and Y polarization components which are generated due to birefringence properties, when the linearly polarized pulse is introduced into the non-linear fiber at an angle of 45° to the polarization axes. The Kerr non-linearity not only stabilizes the soliton spreading due to group velocity dispersion (GVD) but also maintains the level against spreading due to birefringence. The similar circumference occurs for birefringent walk-off distance. Further, it is observed that polarization components of soliton pulses move withcommon group velocity when X and Y components acquire blue and red shift respectively. This evolution scenario takes place in contrast with polarization mode dispersion (PMD) over a non-linear regime for a fiber length of 631.72 and 1264.344km with θ=30°. The results are in direct proportion to the cross phase modulation (XPM) over two polarization components.

Abstract

The worldwide interperability for microwave access or WiMAX is a broad band wireless networking standard which focuses to address interperability across IEEE 802.16 standard based products as this feature provides a common platform to all operating systems in terms of compatability. Tele medicine is one of the necessity of the hour and has become interesting field of research since decades ago. Rapid development of telecommunication technologies have opened up opportunities for further exploring the use of wireless technology to attains the objectives of tele medicine.

Abstract

In this paper, we present the simulative analysis of 32 × 2.5 Gb/s DWDM metro system with 100GHz channel spacing using SMF-28 and the Negative Dispersion Fibre (NDF) such as MetroCor which enhances the capabilities of the metropolitan area optical systems while at the same time reducing the system cost by eliminating the need of dispersion compensation. It is observed that MetroCor fibre outperforms SMF-28 fibre and the faithful transmission distance achieved is upto 300 km without dispersion compensation.

Abstract

In the present work, we investigate the impact of extinction ratio (ζ) of Mach-Zehnder (MZ) amplitude modulator on the performance of 2.5Gb/s Wavelength Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Networks (WDM-PONs) for optical fiber length varying upto 60km. The system performance has been analyzed by varying the value of ζ from 2 to 22dB. It is found that the system gives optimum performance at extinction ratio value 20dB beyond which it saturates. Further, the fuzzy model of the system is developed using ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System), for varying extinction ratio of MZ modulator and performance is evaluated by comparing simulated results with fuzzy model and good correlation is achieved between them.
